High-performance thin-layer chromatography analysis of industrial bamboo tableware for genotoxins, melamine and formaldehyde

Abstract Bamboo tableware became popular as ecofriendly material. However, industrial products made of bamboo-melamine–formaldehyde resin material are not biodegradable. In addition, harmful compounds were detected if such consumer articles used with hot drinks or food, and risk assessment found that maximum daily dosages melamine formaldehyde exceeded. High-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) methods for analysis samples have been demonstrated so far, despite available HPTLC the mentioned analytes. this work, potential limitation was studied regarding extractable presence melamine, genotoxins. The bamboo extracted a food simulant, i.e. aqueous acetic acid simulating beverages, analyzed neutralized non-neutralized, directly without sample preparation to ensure integrity avoid loss components. As result, in acidic simulant. Unfortunately, existing method applicable due milieu non-target HPTLC−(S9)-SOS-Umu-C bioassay simulated S9 liver enzyme metabolization no genotoxic substances 50 µL which volume thus acidity tolerated by Salmonella cells.
